ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lorella (Lori) Marcheggiani Falconi was
born in the costal city of Pescara, Italy.
At a young age, she took up arts
and crafts (drawing, knitting,
crocheting, embroidering). Under
the guidance of family, she was
always encouraged to work with her
hands and pursue any art form or
craft that interested her. Her mother, a seamstress, and her grandmother
were a great influence in her life. Her
father, a mechanic by trade, was
always inventing and working on
something, which kept Lori amused
with "the wonderment of how
things worked."
Lorella exclaims, "While growing up, I
was never able to stay with one art
form for more than one project at
a time. After the sweater had been
knit, I would become bored with knitting
and I would move on to another
medium." Moving on in life, Lorella
discovered a craft which complemented
her array of skills: doll-making.
"No art or craft has ever been able to
keep me captive the way doll-making
has. It allows me to use all my skills to
create each doll. I never tire of creating
dolls. I feel empowered to express myself
as an artist and to continually strive to
improve my abilities.”
Lorella began making dolls in 1998, first
working on antique reproductions and
later creating original modern porcelain
dolls. A finished doll reflects her goal of
creating character and personality
through the use of colour and costume.
Her inspiration is drawn from family,
friends and fond memories
of her childhood.
THE ART OF DOLLS
Lorella's dolls are sculpted with love
and attention to the finest details. Dolls
are created as limited editions or
one-of-a-kind. Lorella designs every
aspect of her dolls, from the original
sculptures to the handmade clothing.
Costumes are made from high quality materials: fine natural fabrics for
clothing, mohair locks for hand-made
wigs, and leather for shoes. Every
doll is carefully china-painted and
fired numerous times to bring out an
emotion in the face of every doll.
Every doll is hand-crafted with
quality finishes and an eye for the beauty
of the final product.
