Shooting - The Wrist Shot
By: The HockeyLink.Ca Team

The wrist shot is undoubtedly one of the most important shots in a player's arsenal. When administered correctly it can prove deadly accurate and quick. No wind up is required so its quick release and control that can catch your opponent by surprise.

The key to taking this shot as with many is proper weight transfer and hand positioning. Make sure your hands are positioned comfortably on the stick, one at the top and the other about half the way down. Turn your body sideways to the target, with the stick cupped over the puck behind your back foot. Begin sliding the puck forward, transferring your weight from your back to front leg. Use the entire blade with this shot, starting from the heel and ending at the toe of the blade upon release. Finally move the puck forward, flick your wrists and follow through, pointing at your target. Nice goal!

There you have the fundamentals to a healthy wrist shot in the making. The wrist shot is a difficult shot to perfect, it should be practiced over and over so that when the puck lands on your blade in the dwindling seconds of third period you'll make no mistake.

Wrist Shot Fundamentals

> Proper weight transfer
> Good hand positioning
> Stand perpendicular to the target
> Use the entire blade from heel to toe
> Follow through pointing at the target
